Excelloy 51 AC/DC ±

For all low carbon steels the ultimate all position, all purpose electrodes

The Excelloy 51 was designed to operate on any AC or DC welding power supply regardless of open circuit value. This electrode is extremely easy to use, performs in all positions, has a self-releasing slag and produces weld deposits with superb bead appearance. Arc action is quiet, smooth and spatter free. Instantaneous strike and re-strike makes this electrode ideal for tacking and repair work.

Applications

For repair and fabrication of all gauges and thick nesses of low carbon steel sheets, plates, angle iron, channel and beams. It is ideal for filling holes, building up worn surfaces and correcting machining errors. Due to its low amperage requirements thin sections can be welded without danger of burn through.

Procedure

Clean and prepare weld zone in accordance with standard welding practice. Use DC straight polarity when welding sheet metal, DC reverse polarity when welding thicker sections. Smooth, evenly rippled weld beads are produced using short arc length or a drag technique. AC operation is smooth and spatter free.

Excelloy 52 AC/DC ±

For rusty and dirty steels, a superior, all position, all purpose maintenance electrode

The Excelloy 52 was specially designed for easy all position operation on rusty, dirty, or painted steels. The forceful arc drive produced by this electrode burns through weld zone contamination, depositing a deeply penetrating, porosity free weld

Applications

General welding of all structural steels and mild steel pipe. Ideal for use on painted and plated surfaces as well as tack welding and every day maintenance welding. Works well where fit up is poor or when slag interference must be minimized. Exceptional ability to operate under severely adverse conditions

Procedure

Clean weld zone with grinder and wire brush. Gouge out damaged material with Excelloy 56. DC+ (reverse polarity) produces deep penetration; DC-(straight polarity) will limit penetration and flatten weld bead. AC prevents arc blow. A medium arc length should be maintained when using either stringer or weave beads.

Technical data

Tensile Strength: Up to 80,000 PSI

Yield Strength: Up to 65,000 PSI

Elongation: Up to 24%

Recommended amperage settings

1/16” 20-40 Amps

5/64” 30-60 Amps

3/32” 40-80 Amps

1/8” 80-130 Amps

5/32” 90-160 Amps

Excelloy 54 AC/DC ±

For high strength, low alloy steels, a low hydrogen electrode for preparing T-1 type materials

The Excelloy 54 produces dense, porosity free welds in all operating positions. Its exceptional elongation and ductility coupled with an 115,000-PSI tensile strength makes the Excelloy 54 the ideal electrode for critical repair welds on heavy equipment. Weld deposits are x-ray quality and crack free.

Applications

For joining and build-up of high strength quenched and tempered steels such as USS T-1, Jalloy, HY 80, HY 90, and HY 100. Commonly used for repair welds on all types of construction, mining, and earth moving equipment.

Procedure

Clean and prepare weld zone in accordance with standard welding practice. No preheat is necessary when ambient temperature is above 50F. Heavy sections (3/4” or thicker) should be preheated between 150-200F. Interpass temperature should not exceed 600F. Run stringer beads while maintaining a short arc length.

Technical data

Tensile Strength: Up to 115,000 PSI

Yield Strength: Up to 98,000 PSI

Elongation: Up to 20%

Recommended amperage settings

1/16” 20-40 Amps

5/64” 30-60 Amps

3/32” 70-100 Amps

1/8” 65-130 Amps

5/32” 90-160 Amps

Excelloy 55 AC/DC ±

For crack sensitive steels, an exceptional all position electrode for steels requiring a low hydrogen

The Excelloy 55 produces x-ray quality welds with superior impact properties even at subzero temperatures. The proprietary electrode coating eliminates weld porosity and under bead cracking even with sulfur and high phosphorus bearing steels. The additional nickel in this electrode dramatically influences both tensile strength and low temperature ductility.

Applications

For carbon steels, low alloy steels and cast steels. It can be used for both joining and build up. Excellent choice when welding of free machining steels or when overlaying worn parts such as shafts, hubs, or castings prior to machining. The Excelloy 55 is ideal for joining heavy sections that are highly restrained. Outstanding all position operation.

Procedure

Clean and prepare weld zone in accordance with standard welding practice. Maintain short arc length. Vertical joints should be welded from the bottom up using rapid weave or stringer technique for maximum strength. Do not whip.

Technical data

Tensile Strength: Up to 82,000 PSI

Yield Strength: Up to 70,000 PSI

Elongation: Up to 28%

Recommended amperage settings

1/16” 20-40 Amps

5/64” 30-60 Amps

3/32” 40-80 Amps

1/8” 65-130 Amps

5/32” 90-160 Amps
