Excelloy 56 AC/DC -

For all metals, high-speed cutting and gouging electrode

An extremely efficient cutting and gouging electrode that has the ability to operate with all types of welding machines on all types of metals. The power packed coating produces a strong arc drive that eliminates the need for compressed air or oxygen. Groove size and depth is easily controlled and the cut is smooth and uniform. This electrode operates well in all positions.

Applications

For cutting and gouging grooves in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, copper, brass, bronze, and nickel alloys. Economically removes defective metal, prepares cracks for welding and cuts risers and ingates from fresh castings. Ideally suited for removing frozen nuts and piercing holes.

Procedure

Point tip of electrode in direction of travel while maintaining a flat 10-20 degree work angle. Maintain a short arc while pushing the electrode along the work. Use a sawing action for most efficient metal removal. Move quickly for a shallow groove or slowly for a deep grove.

Recommended amperage settings

3/32” 125-200 Amps

1/8” 250-350 Amps

5/32” 300-400 Amps

3/16” 350-500 Amps

Excelloy 57 AC/DC -

Cutting, beveling, and piercing electrodes for all metals AC or DC straight electrode.

High-speed cutting electrode for use with all standard arc welding equipment. No special skills, oxygen tanks, or air compressors are required. The special coating protects the electrode from overheating.

Applications

For cutting, beveling, and piercing of cast iron, stainless steel, manganese steel, carbon steel, malleable iron, aluminum, copper, bronze, nickel, and nickel alloys. Ideal for cleaning out defects and removing rivets.

Procedure

For the fastest and cleanest cuts use DC straight polarity (electrode-). When piercing, hold electrode vertical to work, strike arc, and push in and out until hole has been formed. When cutting sheets or plates, start at the edge, strike arc, and use electrode like a saw; push and pull with the electrode at a 45 degree angle to work piece. In all cases the arc must be kept as short as possible.

Excelloy Therma Shield

Heat-Resistant material for insulating and positioning parts for welding

An easy-to-mold compound that is used as a heat dam and insulator to protect metal and other material from the effects of heat. The dough-like consistency of Thermoshield makes it easy to mold around intricate parts. It will adhere to most surfaces making it ideal for use as a jigging fixture or insulator for parts to be welded. It will not distort or shrink when heated.

Applications

Can be used as a heat sink to absorb heat and avoid surface discoloration on heat sensitive parts. It can be used as a heat dam to prevent heat from traveling to areas that can be damaged by heat, such as O-rings, packing glands, glass, and paint. Thermoshield is ideal to hold or position difficult to align parts. It will keep distortion down when welding on light gauge metals such as stainless steel.

Procedure

Position each of the parts to be joined in a mound of Thermoshield large enough to support its weight. Adjust the alignment as necessary before welding. If parts need to be protected form heat, cover that area with a thin layer of Thermoshield. For high temperature applications or where heat is applied for a prolonged time, use a thicker coating. It can also be used to protect non-metallic parts alongside the welding area. If moisture would be harmful to the protected area, a piece of plastic wrap should be applied first.
