Excelloy 70 AC/DC +

Hard surfacing electrode for high abrasion coupled with medium to heavy impact

General purpose surfacing alloy for surfaces subjected to abrasive wear and impact. The deposits are crack resistant but can be forged. Heavy build-ups are possible without the need for softer cushion layers. Excellent for out of position welding applications.

Applications

Build up and surfacing of new and worn machine parts of steel, cast steel, manganese steel, and cast iron. Also dredger teeth, crusher jaws, hammer mill parts, conveyors, drives, and earth borers. Used in agricultural, construction, and mining industries.

Procedure

Remove all foreign material from weld area. Preheat is not necessary. Maintain a medium arc length making either stringer beads or weave beads. Allow parts to cool slowly.

Excelloy 73 AC/DC +

Wearfacing and build up for severe impact applications

The Excelloy 73 is a high chromium high manganese build up and joining alloy that combines toughness, wear resistance and excellent weldability. When used as a build up or cushioning alloy the Excelloy 73 can be applied in unlimited layers without fear of cracking. When used as a joining alloy it will produce an extremely high tensile strength porosity free weld deposit. Deposits will work harden.

Applications

For repair and build up of manganese and carbon steel parts that are exposed to severe impact. It is commonly used on rail frogs, switch points, roll crushers and hammers. It will join manganese steel to carbon steel and most low ally steels

Procedure

Remove all fatigued base metal using Excelloy 56. Operate electrode with a 30 degree angle in direction of travel. Hold a medium arc length. DC reverse polarity produces highest deposition rates.

Technical data

Tensile Strength: Up to 116,000 PSI

Yield Strength: Up to 77,000 PSI

Hardness: As Deposited - 24 RC, Work Hardened - 45 RC

Excelloy 76 AC/DC +

Wearfacing for severe fine particle abrasion at elevated temperatures

The Excelloy 76 is a unique wearfacing alloy containing chromium, molybdenum, manganese, vanadium and tungsten. It produces an extremely hard, abrasion resistant surface that resists temperatures up to 1000F.

Applications

It is commonly used where abrasion, especially fine particle abrasion coupled with high temperatures creates serious wear problems. Surfaces worn by conveyed or moving cement, coke, gravel, sand, slag, or coal can be protected by this extremely hard wearfacing alloy.

Procedure

Remove all hardened or fatigued metal with the Excelloy 56. The Excelloy 76 can be deposited with either stringer or weave beads. Maintain an arc length as short as manageable. Heating manganese steel above 650F should be avoided.

Technical data

Hardness: As Deposited - 58-62 RC

Hot Hardness: Up to 1000 F

Recommended amperage settings

1/16” 20-40 Amps

5/64” 30-60 Amps

3/32” 40-80 Amps

1/8” 65-130 Amps

5/32” 90-160 Amps

*Also available in tig form (Excelloy 61T)

Excelloy 77 AC/DC +

Wear facing - for severe abrasion and moderate to heavy impact

Excelloy 77 is a high alloy solid core electrode offering an excellent combination of abrasion resistance, impact resistance, and weldability. Weld deposits are uniform with excellent bead appearance. Out of position welding characteristics are superior. Developed for use on earth moving equipment, crushers, hammers, and other equipment subjected to severe abrasion and impact. Excelloy 77 bonds readily to carbon steels, low alloy steels, and manganese steels. Weld deposits will cross check to relieve stress.

Procedure

AC or DC reverse polarity can be used. DC reverse will produce highest deposition rates. Stringer or weave beads can be used with a two layer limit.

Technical data

Hardness: As Deposited: 57-60 RC

Recommended amperage settings

1/16” 20-40 Amps

5/64” 30-60 Amps

3/32” 40-80 Amps

1/8” 65-130 Amps

5/32” 90-160 Amps

Excelloy 7007 AC/DC +

Tubular Hardfacing a unique hardfacing electrode for severe abrasion

Excelloy 7007 is a dip coated multiplex-alloyed electrode designed for extremely economical wearfacing applications. Despite its large diameters this electrode can be used with most common welding power supplies. Economy is enhanced by a 96% recovery rate. Low current density reduces heat input in to the base metal.

Applications

Wherever severe abrasion is encountered such as conveyors, screws, augers, and plow blades.

Procedure

Remove all unsound and fatigued base metal using the Excelloy 56 gouging and cutting rod. Deposit alloy while maintaining a moderately long arc length. Use either a weave or stringer technique. Deposits should be limited to two layers. Crosschecking will occur as deposit relieves itself of internal stresses.

Technical data

Hardness: Up to 61 RC

Recommended amperage settings
