Stud removal

The ultimate “problem solver” for removing broken studs, taps, or drills regardless of alloy composition.


Stud Removal Procedure

  • Use 3/32” diameter Excelloy 61S for holes 3/8” and smaller and 1/8” diameter for holes larger than 3/8”
  • Strike Excelloy 61S directly in the center of the broken stud, drill, or tap. Do not strike the edge or the side of the hole.
  • Once the arc is initiated maintain a tight arc in the center of the weld pool.
  • Keep welding in the center of the hole until you reach the top. Do not allow the weld deposit to fuse to the edge or side of the hole.
  • Continue welding until you have created a weld nugget protruding above the surface of the hole.
  • Chip away the slag and place a nut over the weld nugget.
  • Weld the nugget to the nut.
  • Now simply take a wrench and remove the broken stud, drill, or tap.
